The annual If You Could exhibition opens on Thursday 14 January, showcasing interdisciplinary collaborations and giving the collaborators a platform to work outside their conventional working methods and outcomes.
The opportunity to collaborate for ‘If you could’ was one of the consequences of the close working relationship formed between the Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners modelshop and Praline graphic designers whilst working on the touring exhibition ‘Richard Rogers + Architects: From the house to the city’.
Together, they have created a new font called AVEC based on architectural floor-plans. It exists in
three weights: floorplay, mezzanine and facade.
For the exhibition the Modelshop have created four architectural model buildings from the plans of the letters A,V,E and C. From the side it appears to be an architectural model, in plan, letters and word are formed. Avec is the french for ‘with’ – a collaboration – and also the opposite of Sans – relating to traditional san serif fonts. Alongside the model itself, photography of the piece has been blown up and mounted on large panels, a neon sign has been made and the whole alphabet is illustrated in different types of laser cut acrylic.
