The Deptford Project

The Deptford Project - Concept

The proposal will reinforce the role of Deptford High Street as a vibrant connector of public spaces in a highly urban setting. A new, linear public space that follows the line of the ramp will be created, from which links to the railway station, existing and new marketplaces, the high street and residential areas to the west will be established. The scheme provides a catalyst for a renewed focus for civic activity. Although the residential element and public works will be provided by two independent design teams, the overall approach has been within a cohesive masterplan.

The RSHP residential building has been conceived as an elevated box which effectively 'floats' above the listed ramp structure and provides a clearly defined edge to the new public space. The design is deliberately restrained: the building form is uncomplicated in its rectangular form to ensure that it serves as a simple backdrop to the buildings on Deptford High Street, the ramp and the new market place.
