T5 recognised with RIBA National Award
Terminal 5 (T5) at Heathrow Airport was one of 16 projects to receive an RIBA National Award at National and International Awards Dinner held at the London Hilton on Park Lane on 27 June 2008.
Mike Davies, Project Director of T5, said of the win: "We are delighted that T5's generosity of space and light, legibility and straightforward functionality - enclosed within flexible, long-span envelopes - has been recognised as fundamental to a better passenger experience through greener airport buildings."
The National Awards are granted by the RIBA Awards Group based on winners of the RIBA Regional Awards and represent the best architecture in the United Kingdom.
The RIBA awards programme was re-organised in 2007 in a pyramid structure. The RIBA Awards are judged and presented locally, with the next level being the RIBA National Awards which are judged and presented nationally. The RIBA Stirling Prize shortlist is selected following further visits to winners of the RIBA National Awards and winners of RIBA European Awards for buildings in the rest of the EU.
